Report

The team USA dominated the game in the first period. They had the ball in possession most of the time and Greece had to iced the ball very often. Due to the fantastic performance of Greek goalie John Loisis the game was kept scoreless for a long time. Just shortly before the first buzzer a very lovely moment came. Matt Leveseque passed to Brandon Gazzo, he gave him the ball back and Leveseque took a high shot to the right corner. Loisis had no chance to stop it.

In the 2nd period the game was more equal. The USA team drew several penalties which helped to Greece get into the game. "We call such penalties "the lazy ones". Our players were lazy to run and they had to help themselves with the sticks. It resulted in penalties and Greece came back in the game," said US coach Chris Housser. In 18th mnute Greeks managed to equalized the game. Greg Maleganeas took a fast shot from the blue line and scored - 1:1. Three minutes later, US squad got in the lead again. Matt Leveseque scored his 2nd goal of the game. George Vouloumanos` rebound shortly before the 2nd intermission made the score equal again.

More experienced Team USA entered the 3rd period with two fast goals and played very disciplined. Greece had no more chance to come back. "We won in the end, but it was not an easy game at all. The Greek played a very good game and mainly their goalie kept us in problems for a long time. It was our first game of the tournament and we are happy that we managed to win it. I hope we will improve our performance in the upcoming games," said Matt Leveseque.
